Liverpool Back in Champions League Pot 1 — and Fans Are Just Relieved to Be There

25 May

After everything Liverpool supporters have endured this season, there is finally at least one thing everyone can smile about:

Liverpool are set to be placed in Pot 1 for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase draw.

And honestly, after the chaos, frustration and emotional exhaustion of this campaign, many fans are simply relieved Liverpool are even back in Europe’s elite competition at all.

Under the new Champions League format, being in Pot 1 does not carry quite the same advantage it once did.

Every club now faces two teams from each pot anyway, meaning huge fixtures are almost guaranteed regardless of seeding.

So the old “easy group” advantage has mostly disappeared.

But even so, there is still something satisfying about Liverpool remaining among Europe’s elite seeds.

Because despite all the negativity surrounding this season, Liverpool are still viewed as one of the continent’s major football institutions.

That status matters.

Especially after a campaign where supporters often feared the club was drifting emotionally and tactically.

And let’s be honest — many fans genuinely feared Champions League qualification itself at one stage this season.

With:

  • Defensive collapses
  • Passive performances
  • Dressing room tension rumours
  • Supporter frustration toward Arne Slot
  • And dropped points against teams Liverpool should comfortably beat

There were moments where the entire season looked in danger of completely unravelling.

That is why simply seeing Liverpool back in Pot 1 feels strangely comforting.

It is a reminder that despite all the chaos, Liverpool still belong among Europe’s biggest clubs.

And Anfield under the lights in the Champions League will always feel special regardless of form or managerial uncertainty.

Of course, supporters now want far more than just participation.

Liverpool fans expect genuine European competition.

But after this season, many supporters would probably admit they are first just grateful the club avoided complete disaster.

Now attention turns toward the summer.

Big transfers.

Potential exits.

Huge decisions around the squad.

And whether Liverpool can actually build a team capable of competing properly in Europe again.

Because while Pot 1 sounds impressive, Liverpool supporters know reputation alone means nothing anymore.

The football itself has to improve dramatically next season.

Still though… after some of the painful moments supporters experienced this year, seeing Liverpool back in Champions League Pot 1 definitely feels worth celebrating — even if just a little bit.
