Fresh reports surrounding Liverpool target Yan Diomande have revealed just how difficult a deal could become this summer.
According to reports from Paul Joyce, RB Leipzig value Diomande at an astonishing €100 million.
And while Liverpool remain seriously interested in the winger, sporting director Richard Hughes is reportedly exploring ways to reduce that fee dramatically.
One option now being discussed is the possible inclusion of Harvey Elliott as part of a swap arrangement.
It is certainly a move that would divide Liverpool supporters.
Elliott remains hugely loved by many fans because of his passion, technical quality and commitment to the football club.
But despite his obvious talent, he still has not fully established himself as an undisputed starter under Arne Slot.
And with Liverpool clearly prioritising explosive attacking profiles this summer, Diomande appears to fit exactly the type of player the club are aggressively targeting.
The 19-year-old winger is viewed as one of Europe’s most exciting young attacking talents.
His pace, power and ability to dominate defenders one-v-one have reportedly attracted interest from multiple elite clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool’s interest alone shows how highly the recruitment team rate his long-term potential.
However, €100 million is obviously an enormous valuation for such a young player.
Which is why the Elliott possibility becomes extremely interesting.
Leipzig have historically valued technically gifted young players capable of developing within their aggressive style of football.
And Elliott could potentially thrive in the Bundesliga with regular central attacking opportunities.
From Liverpool’s perspective, it may also represent a difficult but logical football decision.
While Elliott remains talented, supporters increasingly worry he does not fully suit the more physical and direct football Slot appears to want moving forward.
Diomande, meanwhile, looks tailor-made for transition football, pressing intensity and explosive attacking play.
Emotionally though, losing Elliott would hurt many fans badly.
He genuinely loves Liverpool.
Supporters see that every single time he plays.
And after years of academy progression and difficult injury setbacks, many still desperately want him to succeed at Anfield long-term.
Ultimately, this situation perfectly reflects Liverpool’s current transition.
The club are aggressively planning for the future.
But doing so may require difficult decisions involving popular players supporters are emotionally attached to.
And if Liverpool truly believe Diomande is a future superstar, Richard Hughes may be willing to make one of the boldest transfer moves of the summer to get the deal done.
