If Liverpool Really Want Yan Diomande, It’s Time to Pay Up

28 Jun

There comes a point in every transfer saga where a club has to make a decision.

Pay the asking price.

Or move on.

Liverpool may be approaching that point with Yan Diomande.

RB Leipzig have reportedly made their position clear throughout the summer. The Bundesliga club value the winger highly and have shown little willingness to compromise on their demands.

If Liverpool genuinely believe Diomande is the right player to become a cornerstone of the club’s future, then perhaps it is time to stop negotiating over every million pounds and simply get the deal done.

Liverpool Have Been Here Before

This situation will feel familiar to many Liverpool supporters.

Last summer, Liverpool spent weeks pursuing Alexander Isak before eventually completing a deal.

Although that transfer was finalised, the prolonged negotiations created uncertainty and delayed the player’s integration into the squad.

Supporters will also remember the pursuit of Marc Guéhi, which ultimately came to nothing.

Liverpool admired the defender for months, yet never completed the transfer.

By the time the opportunity had passed, Guéhi had moved elsewhere, leaving many fans wondering whether acting more decisively could have changed the outcome.

Sometimes the Best Business Is Done Quickly

Liverpool’s recruitment team deserve enormous credit for many outstanding signings over the years.

Being disciplined in negotiations has often worked in the club’s favour.

However, there are occasions when a player is worth stretching for.

If Liverpool believe Yan Diomande has the potential to become one of Europe’s elite wide players, then delaying endlessly over the transfer fee carries its own risks.

The longer negotiations continue:

  • Rival clubs have more time to enter the race.
  • The selling club becomes less flexible.
  • The player misses valuable pre-season time.
  • Integration into the squad becomes more difficult.

Sometimes acting quickly is the smartest financial decision in the long run.

Diomande Fits Everything Liverpool Want

The appeal is obvious.

Diomande is:

  • Young.
  • Explosive.
  • Direct.
  • Creative.
  • Comfortable taking on defenders.
  • Capable of developing even further.

He also appears well suited to Andoni Iraola’s high-intensity style of football.

Everything about his profile suggests he could become one of the most exciting attacking players in the Premier League.

That is exactly why Liverpool have pursued him so aggressively.

There Is Always a Balance

Of course, transfer negotiations are rarely simple.

Liverpool have every right to seek value in the market, and paying over the odds for every target would be poor business.

Equally, RB Leipzig are entitled to demand a fee they believe reflects Diomande’s ability and potential.

The challenge for Liverpool is identifying the point at which continued negotiations become more damaging than simply agreeing a deal.

The Cost of Missing Out

Missing out on a top target can have consequences beyond one transfer.

It can force clubs into pursuing second or third choices, delay planning and create uncertainty throughout the squad.

Liverpool supporters have already seen how frustrating that can be.

If Diomande is viewed internally as the player who perfectly fits Iraola’s long-term vision, then failing to complete the deal over a relatively small difference in valuation could prove costly.

Time for a Decision

Ultimately, Liverpool now face a straightforward choice.

Either Diomande is worth the investment.

Or he isn’t.

If the answer is yes, then perhaps the club should stop allowing the transfer saga to drag on and give Iraola the player he wants before the new season begins.

Because sometimes the most expensive mistake is not paying the asking price.

It is missing out on the right player altogether.

Hughes is a complete idiot, this clown should never have been made director of sports ( transfer decisions) because he is to slow and doesn’t have a track record in completing transfers in reasonable time ( Diomande is the latest example) where he doesn’t have the capability to complete the Diomande transfer, it’s simple pay the £128 million or quickly move on, stop this nonsense of dragging this so stupid saga, as it will affect other transfer targets it’s a simple matter, but Hughes is not the right person to negotiate any transfers deals in quick time!
