Liverpool’s search for attacking reinforcements may have taken another interesting turn.
According to This Is Anfield, citing reports from Spain, the Reds have set their “sights” on Almería attacking midfielder Sergio Arribas following an outstanding campaign in which the Spaniard scored 25 goals.
While there is no suggestion that a transfer is close, the report indicates Liverpool are monitoring one of Spain’s most productive attacking players.
A Standout Season
Twenty-five goals from midfield is an exceptional return at any level.
Arribas was one of the driving forces behind Almería’s attack last season, consistently contributing goals while also creating chances for those around him.
Still only 24 years old, the former Real Madrid academy graduate has developed into one of the most exciting attacking midfielders outside Spain’s traditional elite.
Those performances have inevitably attracted attention from clubs across Europe.
Why Liverpool Could Be Interested
Liverpool have entered a new era under Andoni Iraola, and one of the priorities appears to be increasing the squad’s attacking depth.
Arribas offers several qualities that would naturally appeal:
- Eye for goal.
- Creativity between the lines.
- Excellent technical ability.
- Intelligent movement.
- Versatility across attacking midfield positions.
His ability to arrive late in the box and contribute goals from midfield could provide Liverpool with another attacking dimension.
More Than Just Goals
Although his goal return has captured headlines, Arribas’ game extends well beyond finishing.
Comfortable receiving possession in tight spaces, he has built a reputation for linking midfield with attack and creating opportunities through clever movement and quick combinations.
Those attributes could suit the high-tempo, front-foot football Iraola is expected to implement at Anfield.
Competition for Places
Of course, Liverpool’s attacking midfield options are already strong.
With Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones all capable of operating in advanced areas, Arribas would face significant competition.
That raises an interesting question.
Is Liverpool looking for immediate first-team competition, or are they simply ensuring they are aware of every outstanding opportunity that emerges in the market?
One to Watch
As always, supporters should treat transfer reports with appropriate caution.
Monitoring a player is very different from submitting a bid.
Liverpool’s recruitment team routinely assess dozens of players before deciding who best fits the club’s long-term strategy.
However, if Sergio Arribas really is on Liverpool’s radar, his performances suggest he has earned that attention.
Scoring 25 goals from an attacking midfield role is no small achievement.
Whether Liverpool eventually decide to make their move remains to be seen, but this is certainly another transfer story worth following as the summer window continues.
