Liverpool Among Europe’s Elite Monitoring Mexican Wonderkid Gilberto Mora

5 Jul

Liverpool’s reputation for identifying elite young talent appears to be continuing.
According to Mail Sport, the Reds are among several European giants who are aware of highly-rated Mexican attacking midfielder Gilberto Mora, with Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United also said to be monitoring the 17-year-old.
At this stage there is no suggestion that Liverpool have made a formal approach, but the report underlines just how highly regarded Mora has become despite his age.

One of Mexico’s Brightest Prospects
Mora has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in Mexican football.
Despite being only 17, he has already attracted attention for his technical ability, confidence in possession and maturity when operating in advanced midfield positions.
His rise has been rapid, and it is no surprise that Europe’s biggest clubs are beginning to keep a close eye on his development.

Why Liverpool Are Interested
Liverpool have built much of their recent recruitment strategy around identifying outstanding young players before their market value explodes.
Rather than waiting until talents become established superstars, the club has often preferred to invest earlier and help develop them internally.
Mora appears to fit that profile perfectly.
Creative, technically gifted and still at the beginning of his career, he represents the type of player Liverpool have frequently targeted in recent years.

Fierce Competition Ahead
If Liverpool do eventually decide to pursue the youngster, they are unlikely to have a clear run.
The report claims some of Europe’s biggest clubs are already aware of Mora’s potential.
When teams such as Real Madrid, Chelsea and both Manchester clubs are monitoring the same player, competition becomes inevitable.
That is why Liverpool’s recruitment team will likely continue tracking his progress carefully before deciding whether to make their move.

A Long-Term Investment
At just 17 years old, Mora would almost certainly be viewed as a signing for the future rather than an immediate first-team player.
Liverpool already possess several exciting young talents, including Rio Ngumoha, Stefan Bajčetić, Jeremy Jacquet and Josh Abe, and adding another elite prospect would continue the club’s long-term planning.
Under Andoni Iraola, opportunities for young players could become increasingly important as Liverpool continue building for the future.

One to Watch
Supporters should treat the report as exactly that—an indication of interest rather than confirmation of a transfer pursuit.
Top clubs regularly monitor dozens of young players across the world before deciding who best fits their plans.
However, the fact Gilberto Mora’s name is already being mentioned alongside Europe’s elite clubs tells its own story.
He is clearly a player with enormous potential.
Whether Liverpool eventually move beyond admiration and into formal negotiations remains to be seen.
But this is another exciting young name for supporters to keep an eye on as the summer transfer window continues.
