Former England captain Alan Shearer believes Liverpool’s summer business is far from complete, insisting the Reds still need to make “two or three” major signings if they are to return to the top of English football.
Speaking about Liverpool’s transfer plans, Shearer also identified Bournemouth youngster Rayan as a player who could be an excellent addition to Andoni Iraola’s squad.
“Liverpool Have to Sign”
Shearer did not hold back when assessing Liverpool’s situation.
He said:
“Liverpool are going to have to make two or three big signings and that would start them off nicely.”
He continued:
“They were pretty awful last year, weren’t they, in terms of where they wanted to be. So, they have to go out and they have to sign.”
While Liverpool have already strengthened in several areas, Shearer clearly believes there is still significant work to do before the new Premier League season begins.
Replacing Salah Remains the Priority
One position Shearer believes Liverpool simply cannot ignore is the right wing.
With Mohamed Salah’s departure, replacing one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s history is an enormous challenge.
Shearer said:
“They’re going to have to replace Salah, aren’t they, on that side.”
Few players in world football could truly replace Salah’s goals, creativity and consistency.
However, Liverpool’s recruitment team continue to search for a long-term successor.
Why Rayan Makes Sense
Shearer believes Rayan could be one of those players.
The Bournemouth youngster has been heavily linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, and his connection with Andoni Iraola only strengthens the rumours.
As Shearer explained:
“Rayan obviously worked with Iraola last year and he’s clearly going on to big things. That would be a big one for Liverpool.”
Having already played under Iraola, Rayan understands the demands of the Spaniard’s high-intensity football.
That familiarity could make his adaptation to Liverpool considerably smoother than many other transfer targets.
A Player with Huge Potential
Although still only 19 years old, Rayan has already established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young attacking players.
His game is built around:
- Explosive pace.
- Direct dribbling.
- Fearless one-on-one ability.
- High work rate.
- Tactical flexibility.
Those qualities make him an obvious fit for Iraola’s aggressive style of football.
Liverpool have consistently targeted young players capable of developing into elite performers, and Rayan appears to fit that recruitment model perfectly.
Is Shearer Right?
Liverpool supporters will undoubtedly have differing opinions.
Some believe the current squad only requires one or two additions.
Others share Shearer’s view that several more major signings are needed.
What almost everyone agrees on is that replacing Salah remains one of the club’s biggest priorities.
Whether Rayan proves to be the answer remains to be seen.
But with Alan Shearer now joining the growing list of voices backing the move, Liverpool’s reported interest is attracting even more attention.
The transfer window still has time to run.
If Shearer’s prediction proves accurate, Liverpool supporters may yet see several more exciting arrivals before the new season gets underway.
