Liverpool Taking No Risks With Jeremy Jacquet as Return Nears

31 Jul

Liverpool are continuing to manage Jeremy Jacquet’s workload carefully as the young defender edges closer to his first appearance for the club.

According to James Pearce, Jacquet spent today completing an individual gym session rather than joining full team training as Liverpool continue to ease him back after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Having not played since February, the Reds are understandably taking a cautious approach.

No Need to Rush

For many supporters, the temptation is to see Liverpool’s new centre-back thrown straight into action.

After all, the club have been crying out for defensive reinforcements, and Jacquet is one of the most exciting young defenders to arrive at Anfield in recent years.

But Liverpool’s medical staff and Andoni Iraola appear determined not to rush his return.

Given that he has not played a competitive match for several months, gradually rebuilding his fitness is the sensible approach.

Leeds Appearance Still Uncertain

Jacquet had been expected to feature during Liverpool’s final match of the USA tour against Leeds United on Sunday.

However, Pearce reports that it remains to be seen whether he will be ready.

That uncertainty highlights just how carefully Liverpool are handling his recovery.

Rather than setting fixed deadlines, the club seem prepared to wait until he is fully ready before exposing him to match action.

Thinking Long Term

It would be easy for Liverpool to push Jacquet back sooner, particularly given the lack of defensive depth available during pre-season.

But doing so would carry unnecessary risk.

Liverpool signed Jacquet because they believe he can become an important part of the defence for years to come—not simply because they needed another body for one pre-season fixture.

Protecting that long-term investment makes perfect sense.

A Huge Opportunity Awaits

Whenever Jacquet does make his debut, expectations will naturally be high.

The Frenchman has already been handed Liverpool’s No. 5 shirt, a clear indication that the club have significant faith in his potential.

Supporters are eager to see what he can offer, particularly in Andoni Iraola’s aggressive defensive system.

The wait may be frustrating, but if it helps ensure Jacquet stays fit for the long term, it will almost certainly be worthwhile.

Patience Required

Modern football places enormous physical demands on players, particularly defenders expected to play with a high line and press aggressively.

Returning after several months without competitive football is never straightforward.

Liverpool appear determined to give Jacquet every opportunity to rebuild properly before asking him to perform at Premier League intensity.

That may mean waiting a little longer.

But it also increases the likelihood of seeing the very best version of Jeremy Jacquet when he finally does step onto the pitch.

For now, all eyes will be on Sunday’s clash with Leeds to see whether Liverpool’s exciting young defender is ready to make his long-awaited first appearance in red.
