Liverpool appear to have taken another major step towards signing Bradley Barcola, with the Paris Saint-Germain winger reportedly agreeing personal terms on a five-year contract with the Reds.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Barcola has reached an agreement with Liverpool, but the transfer is currently being held up by PSG.
The French champions reportedly want to complete the signing of Belgian winger Mika Godts before allowing Barcola to leave.
So while an agreement between Barcola and Liverpool is reportedly in place, there is still work to be done before the French international can officially become a Liverpool player.
Barcola wants Liverpool
The most encouraging part of this report for Liverpool supporters is the claim that Barcola has already agreed to a five-year contract.
That would suggest the 23-year-old winger is open to the move and that Liverpool have made significant progress in their efforts to bring him to Anfield.
Now the Reds need to wait for PSG to resolve their own plans.
The French club’s desire to sign Godts before allowing Barcola to depart could be the final obstacle standing in Liverpool’s way.
Why Barcola would be an exciting signing
There is plenty to get excited about when it comes to Barcola.
The French winger possesses explosive pace, excellent dribbling ability and the confidence to take defenders on.
He can operate from either flank but is particularly dangerous when cutting inside and attacking the space around the penalty area.
That could make him an excellent fit for Andoni Iraola’s aggressive attacking football.
Liverpool want to play with intensity and move the ball forward quickly, and Barcola’s ability to carry the ball at speed could give the Reds another devastating weapon.
Imagine Liverpool’s attack
Just imagine the attacking options available to Iraola if this deal goes through.
Bradley Barcola.
Florian Wirtz.
Alexander Isak.
Cody Gakpo.
Federico Chiesa.
Rio Ngumoha.
And that’s before considering the other exciting young players coming through the squad.
Ngumoha is particularly exciting because the teenager has already shown that he isn’t afraid to take on defenders and play with confidence.
At just 17, he still has plenty of development ahead of him, but his pace, close control and willingness to attack defenders make him a fascinating prospect for Iraola.
Adding Barcola to that group would give Liverpool an incredible collection of pace and creativity across the forward line.
Barcola could provide explosive acceleration and direct running, while Wirtz offers creativity between the lines and Isak provides the finishing touch.
Gakpo and Chiesa offer further experience and quality, while Ngumoha represents the exciting future of Liverpool’s attack.
Liverpool could potentially have an attack capable of hurting opponents in so many different ways.
Barcola running at defenders.
Ngumoha frightening full-backs.
Wirtz creating chances.
Isak finishing them.
It is an incredibly exciting prospect for Liverpool supporters.
Another statement of intent
Liverpool have already shown this summer that they are prepared to invest heavily in attacking talent.
Adding Barcola would represent another huge statement.
This wouldn’t simply be about adding squad depth.
It would be about adding a player with the potential to become one of the most dangerous wingers in European football.
At 23, Barcola still has plenty of development ahead of him.
That makes the prospect of working with him particularly exciting.
But Liverpool aren’t there yet
It is important not to get carried away.
A reported agreement between the player and Liverpool is a major step, but it does not mean the transfer has been completed.
PSG still need to resolve their own recruitment plans, with Godts reportedly the player they want to bring in before allowing Barcola to leave.
Until that happens, Liverpool supporters will be waiting.
But if Tavolieri’s report is accurate, the most difficult part may already have been completed.
Barcola has reportedly agreed to Liverpool’s contract.
Now the Reds need PSG to give the green light.
Could Barcola be the next big Liverpool signing?
If Liverpool can get this deal over the line, Barcola could be an incredibly exciting addition to Iraola’s team.
His pace, directness and ability to beat defenders would add another dimension to an attack that already looks capable of frightening Premier League defences.
Wirtz creating.
Isak finishing.
Barcola running at defenders.
Ngumoha developing into a potential star.
It is a mouth-watering prospect.
For now, though, Liverpool supporters have to wait for PSG to complete their side of the equation.
The player reportedly wants the move.
The contract is reportedly agreed.
Now Liverpool just need PSG to say yes.
