Ronald Araújo: “I’m Very, Very Happy” After Completing Liverpool Move

10 Aug

Ronald Araújo has officially completed his move to Liverpool — and the new Reds defender has made it clear just how excited he is to get started at Anfield.

Speaking after signing for Liverpool, Araújo couldn’t hide his enthusiasm about joining one of the biggest clubs in world football.

“I can’t wait to get started. I’m very, very happy. I’m excited to be here at this massive club with lots of history.”

The Uruguayan defender also revealed that he is already looking forward to meeting his new teammates and getting to work under Andoni Iraola.

“I’m excited to meet my teammates, excited to get started playing, and I’m very motivated and really up for getting going.”

That attitude will certainly please Liverpool supporters.

A new chapter for Araújo

For Araújo, this represents an exciting new chapter in his career.

He arrives at Liverpool with a reputation as an aggressive, physical and front-footed centre-back — qualities that could make him an intriguing fit for Iraola’s style of football.

Liverpool are expected to play with a high defensive line and press aggressively under their new manager.

That requires defenders who are comfortable defending large spaces and dealing with opposition forwards one-on-one.

Araújo’s physicality and pace could therefore become extremely valuable.

A huge opportunity at Anfield

Araújo will also have the opportunity to learn from one of the greatest defenders of the modern era in Virgil van Dijk.

Having Van Dijk alongside him could be particularly beneficial as Araújo adapts to a new league, new teammates and a new tactical system.

Liverpool also have Joe Gomez, Jérémy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni competing for places at centre-back, creating plenty of competition for Iraola.

That competition should only raise the standards within the squad.

Araújo is clearly motivated

Perhaps the most encouraging part of Araújo’s first words as a Liverpool player is just how motivated he sounds.

He hasn’t arrived simply to be part of the squad.

He wants to get started.

He wants to meet his teammates.

He wants to play.

And he is clearly excited about representing Liverpool.

That is exactly the attitude supporters want to hear from a new signing.

Welcome to Liverpool, Ronald

Liverpool have entered a new era under Iraola, and Araújo could become an important part of it.

There will inevitably be pressure.

There will be expectations.

But the defender appears more than ready for the challenge.

“I’m very, very happy.”

Now Liverpool supporters will be hoping Araújo can turn that excitement into some outstanding performances on the pitch.

Welcome to Liverpool, Ronald Araújo.
