Liverpool Agree Loan Deal for Ifeanyi Ndukwe With Levante

19 Aug

Liverpool youngster Ifeanyi Ndukwe is set to leave Anfield on loan, with La Liga side Levante agreeing a deal for the highly-rated defender.

According to reports from journalist Santi Sanchis, Levante and Liverpool have verbally agreed a straight loan, with the Spanish club set to cover Ndukwe’s salary. The remaining formalities now need to be completed before the move can be finalised.

And while Liverpool supporters might be disappointed to see Ndukwe leave after such an impressive pre-season, this could actually be a very important move for his development.

👀 Ndukwe impressed during pre-season

The 18-year-old has been one of the surprise packages of Liverpool’s pre-season.

After joining from Austria Vienna, Ndukwe was given opportunities against senior opposition and looked remarkably composed for such a young defender.

His performances were good enough to attract a huge amount of interest, with Liverpool reportedly receiving loan proposals from clubs across several European countries.

He even started alongside Virgil van Dijk against Monaco at Anfield.

That’s some introduction to life at Liverpool.

🇪🇸 Why Levante could be perfect

A move to La Liga could give Ndukwe exactly what he needs now:

Regular first-team football.

That’s particularly important because Ndukwe currently doesn’t qualify for a UK work permit, meaning Liverpool can’t simply keep him around and use him competitively this season. A loan is therefore necessary if he is to continue developing while working towards meeting the requirements to return to England.

And La Liga is arguably an excellent destination.

It’s a top-level league, technically demanding and full of experienced attackers who can test a young centre-back every week.

If Ndukwe can establish himself at Levante, it could accelerate his development enormously.

🔴 Liverpool haven’t given up on him

The important thing is that this isn’t a permanent departure.

Liverpool clearly see something in Ndukwe.

The club paid around £2.6m to sign him from Austria Vienna, and his performances during pre-season have only increased the excitement around his potential.

There have also been reports that a potential January break clause could allow Liverpool to bring him back to Anfield if he reaches the necessary work-permit threshold.

So this isn’t Liverpool moving on from Ndukwe.

It’s Liverpool investing in his development.

🧱 The future of Liverpool’s defence?

That’s what makes this particularly exciting.

Liverpool already have Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni as young centre-backs, while Ronald Araújo has arrived to provide experience and quality.

Add Ndukwe to that group and Liverpool could have an incredibly interesting defensive core for the future.

At 6ft 6in, Ndukwe certainly has the physical attributes.

But what impressed me during pre-season was his composure.

He didn’t look like a youngster simply trying to survive.

He looked like someone who believed he belonged.

Now he gets the opportunity to prove it in Spain.

🔴 A setback? Not at all.

This could be one of the best things Liverpool can do for Ndukwe right now.

Give him a season of senior football.

Let him experience La Liga.

Let him make mistakes and learn from them.

Let him establish himself.

Then Liverpool can reassess his situation.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Ifeanyi Ndukwe back at Anfield sooner rather than later.

The loan to Levante could be the next big step in what looks like a very promising Liverpool career.
