Liverpool Need Lamine Camara — If He Wants The Move, It Should Be A No-Brainer

28 Aug

Liverpool have reportedly enquired about Lamine Camara, with the midfielder’s representatives also offering the player to the Reds, as exclusively revealed earlier today by @AnfieldSector.

And now Chelsea have reportedly joined the race.

For Liverpool, this is a situation that surely deserves serious consideration.

Because when you look at what Andoni Iraola’s squad currently needs, Camara fits the profile extremely well.

And if the player wants to join Liverpool too, why make it more complicated than it needs to be?

Liverpool need a midfielder

The need for another midfielder has become increasingly obvious.

Liverpool have plenty of attacking quality in the middle of the pitch, but they still don’t look completely balanced.

The 2-2 draw with Newcastle highlighted the problem.

Liverpool could dominate possession but were still vulnerable whenever Newcastle broke forward.

That cannot continue throughout an entire season.

Iraola wants intensity.

He wants players who can press, cover ground and win the ball back.

And Liverpool need someone capable of giving the midfield greater protection.

That’s where Camara comes in.

Camara fits the profile

The Senegal international is still only 22, but he already has considerable experience at both club and international level.

He’s energetic, aggressive and comfortable playing in a deeper midfield role.

He can win the ball.

He can carry possession.

He can pass.

And importantly, he has the physicality to compete in the Premier League.

He’s not necessarily a traditional destroyer who simply sits in front of the defence.

But perhaps that’s exactly what Liverpool need.

A midfielder who can defend and contribute when Liverpool have possession.

And now Chelsea are interested

The situation could become more complicated with Chelsea reportedly entering the race.

Liverpool have already seen this summer how quickly transfer situations can change.

If another Premier League club becomes seriously interested in a player Liverpool have identified, the opportunity can disappear very quickly.

That’s why I think the Reds need to be decisive.

If they genuinely believe Camara can solve one of their problems, make the move.

The player reportedly wants Liverpool

This is the part that makes the situation even more interesting.

Camara’s agency has reportedly offered him to Liverpool.

If the player is interested in moving to Anfield and Liverpool believe he fits their plans, then surely that’s a major advantage.

Transfers are never quite that simple, of course.

There are negotiations over the fee.

There are wages.

There are contracts.

There are plenty of moving parts.

But having a player who actually wants to join your club is something you should take advantage of.

He could give Iraola something different

Liverpool’s midfield currently has plenty of technical ability.

Alexis Mac Allister can dictate play.

Ryan Gravenberch can carry the ball.

Dominik Szoboszlai provides energy and pressing.

Florian Wirtz gives Liverpool creativity further forward.

But who is the midfielder who consistently puts out fires?

Who protects the defence when Liverpool lose possession?

Who gives the attacking players greater freedom?

That’s the question.

Camara could potentially be that player.

And if Iraola can develop him further, Liverpool could have a long-term solution rather than another short-term fix.

Liverpool have already spent big

The obvious argument will be that Liverpool have already spent a fortune this summer.

They’ve brought in Alexander Isak for £125m and invested heavily in Florian Wirtz and Bradley Barcola.

But that makes strengthening the midfield even more important.

You don’t spend that sort of money on attacking players and then leave them exposed because the team behind them isn’t balanced.

Liverpool need to make sure the rest of the squad is capable of getting the best out of those huge investments.

So what’s stopping them?

The biggest question is whether Liverpool genuinely believe Camara is the right player.

If they do, I don’t think they should hesitate for too long.

Chelsea are now reportedly interested.

Other Premier League clubs have been linked with him.

And Monaco will ultimately decide what price they are prepared to accept.

But Liverpool already have something important:

The player reportedly wants them.

My verdict

For me, this should be a no-brainer if Liverpool’s recruitment team genuinely believe Camara can fill the hole in the squad.

You have a young midfielder who fits the profile.

You have a position that Liverpool clearly need to strengthen.

You have a player whose representatives have made him available to the club.

And you potentially have a player who wants the move.

What more does Liverpool need to see?

Obviously, the price has to be right.

Liverpool shouldn’t overpay simply because Chelsea are interested.

But if the numbers make sense, get the deal done.

Because Liverpool don’t need another season where we spend months talking about the same weakness.

They need to fix it.

And Lamine Camara could be exactly the sort of midfielder Iraola needs.

If he wants Liverpool and Liverpool want him, stop messing around and get it done.
