Liverpool supporters love discovering the next exciting young talent before everybody else starts talking about them. And there is a new name doing the rounds that could be worth keeping an eye on.
Justin Ellis.
The 19-year-old Orlando City forward has reportedly been linked with a visit to Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre after a social media post appeared to show the club’s training ground. The alleged account was subsequently deleted, sparking speculation that Ellis may have visited Merseyside.
Naturally, that has got people talking about a potential Liverpool connection.
But before anyone starts booking a seat for him at Anfield, there is an important detail to consider. The report has not been confirmed, and MLSsoccer.com subsequently reported that a source with knowledge of the situation said the account was fake. There is currently no reliable confirmation that Ellis visited Liverpool’s training ground or that the club are pursuing a deal.
That does not mean the player himself isn’t worth watching.
In fact, his recent rise in American football makes him an intriguing young prospect in his own right.
Who is Justin Ellis?
Ellis is a 19-year-old attacking talent who plays for Orlando City in Major League Soccer and has recently broken into the United States men’s national team.
He has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign, establishing himself as one of the more exciting young creative players in American football.
His performances for Orlando have attracted attention because of his technical ability, dribbling and eye for a pass. He is comfortable carrying the ball into dangerous areas and has shown that he can create opportunities for teammates as well as contribute himself.
According to Orlando City, Ellis recorded 10 assists in MLS during the 2026 season, putting him among the most productive teenage creators in the league.
That is an impressive return for a player still at the beginning of his senior career.
His progress has also earned international recognition. Ellis received his first senior USMNT call-up in September and went on to make an impact during the international window, scoring in each of his first two starts for the national side.
For a 19-year-old, that is a significant step forward.
He is no longer simply an academy prospect with potential. He is beginning to make an impact in senior football, and that is what makes his development interesting.
Why would Liverpool be interested?
Liverpool have invested heavily in young talent, and it is easy to see why an exciting attacking player like Ellis might attract attention from clubs across Europe.
He is technically gifted, creative and capable of operating in advanced positions. Those qualities could make him an interesting long-term prospect for a club looking to build for the future.
There have also been comparisons between his style and former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino, particularly because of his creative instincts and ability to contribute to the build-up rather than simply concentrate on scoring goals.
That comparison should be treated cautiously, of course. Firmino was an exceptional player whose movement, pressing and link-up play were central to Liverpool’s success under Jürgen Klopp.
Ellis still has a great deal to prove before anyone can make a meaningful comparison.
But the general idea of a forward who can create as well as finish is certainly appealing.
Andoni Iraola is building his own Liverpool side, with an emphasis on attacking football and players who can contribute in different ways. A young, versatile attacker with Ellis’s technical qualities could be an interesting option for the future if Liverpool’s recruitment team believe he has the potential to make the step up.
That is a possibility, not evidence of a transfer plan.
At this stage, there is no confirmed bid, agreement or reliable confirmation of formal Liverpool interest.
One to watch – but don’t get carried away
The temptation with any young player linked to Liverpool is to imagine how he might fit into the team.
We have seen how exciting it can be when young talent breaks through. Rio Ngumoha has already given supporters plenty to get excited about, while Liverpool continue to develop other promising youngsters.
Ellis has his own route to follow.
He has made a promising start to his senior career, earned international recognition and demonstrated an ability to create chances at a high level. Those are encouraging signs, and his development will be worth following regardless of whether Liverpool are genuinely interested.
There is also the question of whether he would be ready to make the move from MLS to the Premier League. The jump in intensity, tactical demands and competition would be significant, and any club considering him would need to assess his potential carefully.
For now, Orlando City is the place where he needs to continue proving himself.
If he keeps producing performances like those that earned him international recognition, it would not be surprising to see more European clubs monitoring his progress.
Whether Liverpool are among them remains unconfirmed.
Could we hear more about Ellis in the future?
I would not read too much into the training-ground rumour itself, particularly given the doubts surrounding the social media account behind it.
But I would keep the player’s name in mind.
Justin Ellis is 19, has made an encouraging breakthrough at Orlando City and is already making an impression with the United States. He has the creativity and technical ability to make him an intriguing prospect, and his next few seasons could be important in determining how far he can go.
Liverpool may or may not be part of that story.
For supporters, the sensible approach is to separate the excitement around the player from the speculation about a possible move to Anfield.
There is no confirmed Liverpool deal or verified training-ground visit, but Justin Ellis is certainly a young talent worth keeping an eye on.
Remember the name.
