Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nnamdi Collins, with Manchester United and Chelsea also monitoring the highly-rated youngster.
The 22-year-old has attracted attention with his performances in the Bundesliga, and his versatility is understood to be a major attraction for clubs looking to strengthen their defensive options.
Collins is capable of playing both centre-back and right-back, offering the sort of flexibility that could prove particularly valuable to Liverpool as they look to build greater depth across their backline.
According to transfer reporter Ekrem Konur, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are closely scouting the German defender as they assess his potential availability.
However, any January move looks unlikely.
Frankfurt reportedly value Collins at a minimum of €35 million and have no intention of allowing him to leave during the winter transfer window. He is also under contract until 2030, leaving the Bundesliga club in a strong negotiating position.
Could Collins Be an Option for Liverpool?
From Liverpool’s perspective, the interest makes sense.
Defensive versatility is becoming increasingly important, particularly with the demands of competing across multiple competitions. Having a player capable of filling in at both centre-back and right-back would give the squad another useful option.
Liverpool have already seen how quickly defensive depth can become an issue when injuries and fixture congestion arrive. Recruiting a young defender who can provide competition in more than one position could therefore be a sensible piece of long-term planning.
At 22, Collins also has plenty of development ahead of him, potentially making him an attractive investment rather than simply a short-term solution.
That said, a reported €35 million valuation is not insignificant, and Liverpool would need to be convinced that he has the quality to make the step up to the Premier League.
January Move Looks Unlikely
With Frankfurt having no plans to sell in January and Collins tied down until 2030, Liverpool may have to wait if their interest develops into something more concrete.
For now, this appears to be a case of keeping tabs on a promising young defender rather than an imminent transfer.
But with Manchester United and Chelsea also watching, Liverpool will know they are not alone in recognising Collins’ potential.
The Kopite View: Liverpool need to be looking ahead when it comes to strengthening their defence. Versatility, youth and potential are all attractive qualities, and Collins certainly appears to tick those boxes. Whether he is the right player for Liverpool remains to be seen, but keeping an eye on emerging Bundesliga talent makes perfect sense.
