Ben Jacobs has been talking about the Ibrahima Konaté contract situation and it still sounds a bit up in the air.
A few weeks ago Konaté himself was saying things were close, but there’s still been no announcement and now Jacobs says it’s basically “50-50” whether it gets done.
That’s not exactly reassuring this late in the season.
Liverpool usually leave contract talks running longer than fans would like, but this one feels different somehow.
When Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah signed, everything was sorted by April.
We’re now getting close to the end of the season and there’s still no breakthrough with Konaté.
That naturally makes people wonder what’s going on behind the scenes.
Personally, I’m not convinced he signs.
Maybe it suddenly gets sorted quickly and everyone relaxes, but the longer this drags on, the more uncertain it feels.
And let’s be honest, there’ll be plenty of clubs watching this situation closely because top centre-backs are hard to find.
When Konaté is fit, he’s massive for Liverpool FC.
That’s why this situation feels important.
Because losing him would be another huge problem Liverpool really don’t need going into next season.
