Arne Slot Responds to Criticism After Difficult Liverpool FC Season

14 May

Arne Slot has spoken about the criticism surrounding his future after what many Liverpool fans believe has been one of the club’s worst Premier League seasons ever.

Speaking about the pressure on managers, Slot said:

“I think the world has gone to a stage where, if a manager doesn’t have their best season, it is always a debate. That is the new reality in football. It’s not up to me to judge the people that judge me. They have every right to that opinion and everyone can share that.”

Fair enough, but this has been far more than just “not the best season.”

Liverpool won the Premier League title last season.

That’s what makes this campaign so difficult to accept for supporters.

To fall this badly within a year is honestly shocking.

The performances have been poor for months.

Too many defeats, too many late goals conceded, too many set-piece goals conceded and far too many matches where Liverpool looked slow, passive and completely lacking confidence.

At times this season the team has barely resembled a Liverpool side.

That’s why so many supporters are angry.

Fans can accept difficult spells, especially with injuries, but what they struggle to accept is seeing no clear improvement as the season has gone on.

Even worse, the football itself has often been hard to watch.

To be fair to Slot, he hasn’t hidden from the criticism and he clearly understands people are going to question him after a season like this.

But Liverpool supporters also have every right to feel frustrated after watching the club go from league champions to one of the most disappointing teams in the country within 12 months.

Now the pressure is really on heading into next season.

Because another campaign like this simply doesn’t bear thinking about for most fans.
