Liverpool are already looking ahead to the summer of 2027, and their recruitment plans appear to be taking shape.
The club are currently leading the race to sign Lamine Camara, while contract talks with Alexis Mac Allister are being delayed as Liverpool consider a major midfield overhaul. At the same time, fullbacks have become one of the club’s strongest priorities for the 2027 transfer window.
That suggests Liverpool are not simply planning for one or two additions. They appear to be preparing for a broader rebuild of the squad.
Liverpool lead the race for Camara
Lamine Camara has emerged as one of the most attractive midfield targets on Liverpool’s radar, and the club are currently believed to be in the strongest position to sign him in 2027.
The midfielder has impressed with his technical ability, energy and maturity. He can contribute defensively, carry the ball through midfield and help dictate the tempo of a match.
Those qualities would make him an appealing option for Liverpool, particularly if the club decide to refresh their midfield over the next couple of years.
Liverpool have already shown a willingness to invest in younger players who can develop into important first-team figures. Camara would fit that recruitment model, offering both immediate potential and long-term value.
However, there is still a long way to go before any deal is completed. Interest from other major clubs could develop, and Liverpool will need to maintain their advantage if they want to secure his signature.
For now, though, they are understood to be leading the race.
Mac Allister’s contract situation is being delayed
The uncertainty surrounding Alexis Mac Allister is one of the more interesting parts of Liverpool’s long-term planning.
Rather than rushing into contract talks, Liverpool are delaying discussions while they assess their midfield options ahead of the summer of 2027.
That does not necessarily mean the club want to sell Mac Allister or that his future has already been decided. It may simply reflect the fact that Liverpool want a clearer picture of how their midfield will look before committing to new contracts.
Mac Allister remains an important player. His passing range, intelligence and ability to operate in different midfield roles make him valuable to the team.
But if Liverpool are planning a significant overhaul, they may want to evaluate every position carefully. The club could be considering a younger midfield structure, a different tactical balance or a new group of players capable of taking on greater responsibility.
Delaying talks gives Liverpool more time to make that decision.
It also creates some uncertainty for Mac Allister, who will understandably want clarity over his role and future. The midfielder has been an important part of Liverpool’s plans, but the club’s long-term strategy appears to be taking priority.
A midfield overhaul could be coming
Liverpool’s interest in Camara suggests that changes in midfield could be more extensive than a single signing.
The club may be preparing for the natural evolution of the squad, with some players approaching the later stages of their careers and others potentially moving on in search of regular football.
A midfield overhaul would allow Liverpool to introduce more athleticism, energy and defensive security. It could also give the manager greater flexibility when selecting between different tactical systems.
Camara would not be expected to solve every problem on his own, but his profile could make him an important part of the next generation.
Liverpool will still need to decide which current midfielders remain central to their plans. That is likely to explain why contract discussions with Mac Allister are being handled cautiously.
The club do not want to make major commitments before they are certain about the direction of the squad.
Fullbacks are also a major priority
Liverpool are not only focusing on midfield.
Fullbacks are also being strongly prioritised ahead of the 2027 transfer window, with the club seemingly keen to strengthen both the depth and long-term quality of those positions.
Modern fullbacks are expected to contribute in almost every phase of the game. They must defend one-on-one, support attacks, provide width and often move into midfield during possession.
Liverpool have traditionally placed great importance on the position, particularly because their fullbacks have played such a major role in creating chances and controlling matches.
The club may now believe that further investment is needed. Injuries, squad rotation and the demands of competing across several competitions mean Liverpool need reliable options in both positions.
Adding younger fullbacks would also help protect the team against future departures and reduce the pressure on established starters.
This could become one of the defining features of Liverpool’s 2027 recruitment strategy.
Liverpool are planning beyond the next window
The interest in Camara, the delayed talks with Mac Allister and the focus on fullbacks all point towards a club planning several years ahead.
Liverpool are not simply reacting to short-term problems. They appear to be considering how the squad should look in 2027 and beyond.
That kind of planning is essential if the club want to remain competitive at the highest level. A successful rebuild requires difficult decisions, particularly when it involves established players who have already made important contributions.
Mac Allister’s situation will be watched closely, but the delay in contract talks should not automatically be interpreted as a sign that Liverpool have lost faith in him.
Instead, it may reflect the scale of the decisions being considered.
Liverpool want to make sure their next midfield is balanced, athletic and capable of competing for major honours. Camara could be part of that future, while new fullbacks may also play a central role in the next phase of the squad’s development.
Liverpool’s plans for 2027 are beginning to look increasingly ambitious.
If they can maintain their advantage in the race for Camara and strengthen the fullback positions, they could be laying the foundations for another important era at Anfield.
